Five health checks worth booking after 30
The tests that give you a useful baseline — and the ones you can probably skip.
Turning 30 is a useful moment to establish a health baseline. You do not need every test on the market, but a small set of measurements gives you and your doctor something to compare against in future years.
Start with the basics
Blood pressure, weight and waist measurement, a full blood count, fasting glucose and a lipid profile cover a lot of ground. They are quick, inexpensive and pick up common issues early.
Know your family history
If a parent or sibling has heart disease, diabetes or an inherited condition, your screening should reflect that. Family history often changes the age at which screening starts, not just which tests you have.
Screen for what matters at your age
Cervical screening, breast awareness and colorectal screening are age- and risk-dependent. Your doctor can map the local guidelines to your own situation rather than applying a generic checklist.
If you are unsure where to start, a single consultation is usually enough to agree a sensible plan. The best screening programme is the one you will actually repeat.
